Remembering 911.

“First came the boom―the loud, deep, unapologetic bellow that seemed to erupt from the very core of the earth. Eerily, the majestic high-rise slowly leaned to the south. On the seventy-eighth floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one had information about what had happened at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001―what should have been a normal workday for thousands of people. All that was known to the people inside was what they could see out the windows: smoke and fire and millions of pieces of burning paper and other debris falling through the air.”

Read an excerpt from my dear friend, Susy Flory’s, book, written with 911 Survivor, Michael Hingson. And, take 7 minutes to listen to Michael talk with CBN Cohost, Terri Meeuwsen. I promise it is time well spent. In fact, it would be a great way to end the day with your family—listening and remembering 911.

Remembering 911

One particular remark really helped me, today. Michael said as he and Roselle, i.e. Thunder Dog, were running from the tower, he distinctly heard God speak these words:

“Don’t worry about what you can’t control.
Focus on running with Roselle and
the rest will take care of itself.”

Don’t Worry About What You Can’t Control.

Today, I woke up at 5am thinking of my older daughter, Candace Rose, who is trekking yet again across three countries in South America. She is currently “off grid” for a week because she is out in a desert somewhere. When she signed off Skype Monday night, I clicked a screen shot. That bright smiling face and radiant spirit breathes courage and strength into my life here in Suffolk. Don’t worry about what you can’t control.

Remembering 911

I woke up thinking about my daughter Brooke who finished her dream job at Chick-Fil-A yesterday. She is taking a new job that is better suited to being a new wife and NOONDAY ambassador. I worry about Brooke because she has faced so many physical challenges. I can’t be there for her everyday. I have to love from afar. Don’t worry about what you can’t control.

I woke up thinking about my son Grant who lives in the Midwest—making his way. Is he eating right? Does he have enough money? You know…mommy stuff. Don’t worry about what you can’t control.

I woke up thinking about this darn Achalasia and how it has wrecked havoc on my body. Don’t worry about what you can’t control.

Easier said than done, I know. BUT, we can heed Michael’s words because HE lived them. I take courage because I know if he can survive 911, as a blind man even, I can survive my day here in Suffolk.

Whatever comes our way, God will be with us. Here’s a little help in letting go of worry:

Cling to his promise in Psalm 9:10,

“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.”
