What Do You Want to Do with Your Life?
During a very powerful session with one of my clients this week, I asked a seeming simple question: What do you want?
After a strong conversation on trying to answer this question, where many words had been tossed back and forth between the winds of fate and faith and truth and reason, she looked at me and with great emotion, asked:
“Do you really know what you want in life? I don’t think that is possible.”
Pausing, I took a moment to catch my breath. Then, as easy as the sugar melts in my steamy hot tea, I said:
“Yes. Finally, at age 54, I can say with certainty, I know what I want in life. It’s taken me 54 years and a hell of a lot of struggling through what I don’t want (excuse my frankness), but I know.
The Fruit of a Mended Heart
A few milliseconds of silence hung in the air.
Neither of us said a word.
Then with new-found solidarity of mind, body, and soul, I spoke into existence the fruit of a mended heart:
I want to travel. My husband and I know with certainty that we want to see the world. Experience life together.
I want to speak to people, women specifically, all over the world. Help them find who they are so they can both fulfill and experience living life to the fullest.
I’m sure I said more, but it was one of those moments when the Spirit takes over and I merely opened my mouth.
A couple days later, while in my pajamas until the early afternoon, I spent time delving the unknown realms of that moment, deciding I needed to write some things down. I guess you could say it was a declaration of sorts: My Mended Heart Mission *
I am living what I want, right here, right now.
Practicing the complexities of loving God, loving my mended self, so I can continue loving my husband, loving my children, loving my family, loving my friends, and loving my neighbors.
And, helping people.
In a little room designed to be a safe haven, I welcome hurting human beings.
From the mended places in my heart, I offer help, hope, and healing words to their broken hearts.
If God wills, these words will take flight across state lines, across oceans, and across continents.
In the meantime, I practice in the sphere of influence He has placed me in, right now.*
So I ask, “What Do You Want?”
Did any of this rambling resonate with you? I sure hope so. I am sincere when I say, I hope all my millions of falling aparts haven’t been in vain, but have taken place so I can help you through yours. Your falling aparts are not in vain. God uses each and every unraveling moment to make and mold you into an even greater version of your beautiful God-created Self. If you need help on your healing journey, I’m here for you. I consider it a both a privilege to walk alongside of you and a challenge to dig for buried treasure! Today is the day to begin writing Chapter One: New Life. Let’s do this!

*This declaration expounds on my Mended Heart Mission (written to identify and define the future direction of my vocational life, not so much my personal life, although they are integrated.) I started with my simple mission statement: Practicing the complexities of loving in order to help hurting hearts.
