“It is how we respond to loss that matters. That response will largely determine the quality, the direction, and the impact of our lives” (Gerald L. Sittser).

I turned 67 on Sunday, October 11, and spent the day loving on my husband, Rob, who suffered a TIA on Friday. Around 8:30am that morning, while I was chatting with our two granddaughters in Belgium, he sat down to say hello. Not seconds later, he said, “I don’t feel well. I need to go to the ER.” I said goodbye immediately, and off we went. Like most men, I think, my husband never says, “I need to go to the doctor.” This unexpected medical event took us both by surprise, and thankfully he received great care from compassionate medical professionals.

P.S. Thankful to the kind nurses who gave us a quick photo op before we left the hospital. It was my birthday, after all!
